While the Academy Awards is an event that celebrates achievements in the film industry, it is also one of the most highly-anticipated fashion events of the season and basically serves as the Fashion Olympics for the most prestigious Hollywood stars. Lets take a look at some of the best and worst dressed and a couple of trends that took to the red carpet on Sunday night.
GAGA’S BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S
Lady Gaga once again took the red carpet by storm wearing a black Alexander McQueen strapless gown with black leather opera gloves. Gaga definitely channeled the fashion icon Audrey Hepburn with this look and she executed it perfectly. The focal point of the look was the ginormous yellow diamond hanging elegantly around her neck. The Tiffany & Co necklace is known as the Tiffany Diamond and is more famous than Gaga herself. The diamond is so precious that it has only been worn three times in the past 142 years, one of those times was by Audrey Hepburn. Coincidence? I think not.

J-LO BRINGS THE DISCO
It took Jennifer Lopez and her stylists over two months to decide on her dress for the Oscars, but it was so worth it and reflected her red carpet prowess perfectly. J-Lo wore head to toe sparkle at this years Academy Awards. She rocked a long sleeved figure-hugging Tom Ford dress that may or may not have been inspired by Kim Kardashian West’s 2016 Met Gala look. The dress was embellished top to bottom with jewels that gave a mirrored mosaic effect just like a disco ball.

PRETTY IN PINK
Pink was definitely a trend at this years Academy Awards. Gemma Chan wore a stunning highlighter-pink parachute like gown by Valentino. Helen Mirren looked regal in a long sleeved, layered Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown with a plunging neckline. Kacey Musgraves wore a baby-pink tiered tulle gown by Giambattista Valli giving a serious fairy princess vibe.

Sarah Paulson stunned in a Brandon Maxwell dress that seemed like the Cinderella style gown had been given a modern sartorial twist. The diamond details around the neck add even more elegance to the look. Angela Bassett and Meagan Good also rocked some beautiful pink gowns. Charlize Theron hit the red carpet with a brand new hairstyle. Her brunette bob recieved a lot of attention, but so did her periwinkle Haute Couture Christian Dior gown. The front of the dress looked sleek and sophisticated with its turtleneck highlighted by a diamond Bulgari serpent necklace. But its backless design is what caught everybody’s eye.
VUITTON GONE WRONG

Emma Stone wore a brownish-gold custom Louis Vuitton gown on the red carpet this year. The dress had a honeycomb pattern and was completely embroidered in pearls, sequins, and beads. It is definitely easy to appreciate the work that must have gone into the embroidery, but there was just something not quite right about the dress. Fans took to Twitter to voice their opinions on the look, some saying it looked like a waffle-cone. Funny but true. Overall this dress was not a strong fashion moment for the actress.

There were certainly some stunning and very unique looks at the Academy Awards this year. But as always, there were some serious fashion faux-pas. Glenn Close showed up dressed like an Oscar statue in a boxy gold-beaded Carolina Herrera dress, custom designed for her by Wes Gordon. It may have been forgiven if she had actually won the Oscar, but unfortunately she lost to Olivia Coleman.
