STREET FASHION: NEW YORK CITY JACKET TRENDS

Although New York Fashion Week has been and gone, in the city that never sleeps, neither does fashion. The streets of the city host a year-round showcase of style which is why it is considered one of the biggest fashion capitals of the world.

On March 7, Fashion Fatale took a trip to the Big Apple to capture some early spring trends. While the sun was high and bright, the temperature was still low and New Yorkers were wrapping up in style. Here are some of the jacket trends that emerged…

READY IN TEDDY

The teddy bear coat has been doing fashion circuit rounds for decades. The coats emerged in the 1920’s as protective clothing for motorists in cold weather but gradually became a fashion staple in various shapes and colors worn by the likes of Kim Kardashian and Hailey Bieber.

This caramel colored jacket is of a similar design to the to the famous I.AM.GIA pixie coat that was popular last year. Its loose fit and large pockets worked well with mom jeans and shiny platformed black boots. Although very simple, this urban look stood out on the streets.

There was also a bright teal colored teddy bear coat that proved again that coziness and comfort doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your style. Paired with a multi-colored scarf, maroon joggers and white sneakers, this ensemble looked casual but the jacket made it pop.

A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE

Leopard print jackets were spotted around every corner of the concrete jungle in a variety of shapes and styles. At New York Fashion Week this year, animal prints proved to be a strong trend with the likes of Kate Spade, Marc Jacobs and R13 all featuring it in their collections. Just a month has passed and the trend has already filtered down from the runways to the high streets. From faux-fur jackets to long coats, leopard print has become a bona fide movement.

Faux-fur jackets always add a little luxury to any look. But leopard print faux-fur jackets add luxury and flair, and have been worn by everyone from royalty to rockstars. While in the natural world, leopard print is supposed to blend in, in the fashion world it certainly is not. Here a wide variety of leopard print jackets we captured around the city…

This long jacket with large notched lapels stood out the most because it was styled so well. Worn over a black turtleneck sweater dress and black tights with booties and a small over the shoulder bag, this woman looked fashionable and fierce strolling through Times Square.

TRUDGING IN A TRENCH

Whether you’re wearing it with a suit, with sweats, or with jeans, a trench coat adds sophistication to any outfit. In New York City it is trench coat season. The versatile piece can be used to wrap up and stay dry or as the focal point of an outfit.

The classic camel colored trench coat rushed past us countless times as we worked our way around the busy streets of Manhattan. Women of all ages sported the classic piece and made it their own.

Grey trench coats also seemed to be a popular choice. Both the camel and grey coats are very versatile because they can be easily styled over dark or bright hues.

HIGH SHINE ON THE HIGH STREETS

Puffer jackets are trending and they are no stranger to the runway, celebrities, world leaders and everyone in between. Metallic tones have also been hot this year, so when the two trends combine, it is bound to make a statement even if it is a revive of 90’s rave style. Silver metallic puffer jackets were spotted all around the city and looked very cool and futuristic, particularly when styled with black garments and accessories. A tighter fitting gold jacket was also spotted, but looked tacky in comparison to its silver counterparts.
